COAST is the product of a cross-ministerial initiative between Recovery Alberta and the Government of Alberta (Disability Services - Persons with Developmental Disabilities & Family Support for Children with Disabilities and Children's and Family Services) that aims to meet the needs of children, youth and adults with complex service needs in the Edmonton zone. COAST delivers a recovery-oriented service that empowers the person and their supports to promote, achieve, and sustain wellness. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, clinical services are delivered in both clinic and community settings (i.e. homes, community agencies, schools, health care facilities). The team aims to support the person, family, caregivers, community and the larger systems through services such as assessment and recommendations, interventions, education, support for transitions (i.e. discharges from care facilities), and collaboration on complex cases. COAST offer specialized psychiatry consults and psychiatric stabilization utilizing a shared-care model with community physicians. People eligible to receive supports from COAST need to meet both of the following criteria: Currently accessing supports from Disability Services (PDD or FSCD) or Children’s Services programs. Are considered to meet the definition of Complex Service Needs (Definition from Government of Alberta, Disability Services). The COAST Mental Health Clinician will carry a caseload of complex files from various age groups, supporting assessment, treatment, support system navigation & preservation of supports; with a goal to assist clients to stabilize. The COAST Mental Health Clinician will travel throughout the Edmonton Zone, providing both clinic based and outreach support. This role provides direct care to clients and training to caregivers/professional supports.

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews, and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Registered Occupational Therapists.

Completion of a master's degree in psychology; a bachelor's degree in social work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention; a master's or bachelor's degree in occupational therapy with similar educational components; a bachelor's degree in nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling; or a bachelor's degree in psychiatric nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

NVCI. BLS. 2 years of experience working in a mental health setting, providing direct support to individuals with mental health challenges. Experience working with Intellectual Disability, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Substance Use and other mental health conditions as indicated within the DSM-5. Experience managing a caseload and working in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.

Experience working with children and adult populations. Experience using a family centered and trauma informed approach. Knowledge of the GOA's Disability Services system as well as the Children and Family Services system. Understanding of guardianship status. Experience providing direct support to clients and their caregivers. Experience collaborating with other healthcare programs as well as psychiatric inpatient settings.
