Description
The Claresholm Centre for Mental Health & Addictions is a 120 bed facility with an attached outpatient program (community support services) of 40 spaces. There are three primary inpatient units at the site include Concurrent Disorders, Active Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Extended Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Transitions Unit. Professionals at the Centre believe in each individual’s potential for development and success. Our team includes nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, psychologist, physicians, pharmacists, recreational and occupational therapists, dieticians and other mental health providers. Once a patient is ready for transition and re-entry into community living, follow-up support, outpatient programs and outreach services are coordinated for patients. These form a comprehensive treatment model with various service options for patients. As the successful candidate, you will be expected to demonstrate time management and prioritization skills in a rapidly changing environment; be self-directed and show initiative; strong interpersonal and communication skills; collaboration with the interdisciplinary team; problem solving, decision making, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills; patient advocacy using a person-centered approach; and foster positive relationships within a team environment. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.
Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Competency and familiarity with the DSM diagnoses. A demonstrated ability to provide focused interventions to assist clients to better understand and manage their mental health symptoms. A strong foundation of knowledge and experience working with clients who have substance use concerns.
Experience facilitating individual and group therapy in an adult mental health outpatient/inpatient setting. Experience working in an inpatient/outpatient addiction treatment setting. Formal training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). If registered with ACSW, preference to those candidates with authorization to perform restricted psychosocial interventions.
