Mental Health Clinician

Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Mental Health Clinician functions as a member of the Psychiatric Outreach Response Team (PORT). This position is responsible for assessment of newly referred clients and the ongoing treatment and follow-up of adolescent (13-17) and adult as well as geriatric clients with moderate to severe addiction & mental health disorders. The model of care is case management focusing on crisis stabilization, assessment, treatment, and connection to community and AHS resources. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

3-5 years’ experience equivalent to full time in an Addictions and Mental Health Outreach role. Ability to provide short-term crisis response and stabilization services, and on-going treatment follow-up specific to needs of clients within the adolescent and adult population groups. Ability and experience to manage caseload of clients who have been seen and discharged from an acute Addictions and Mental Health service, who are experiencing moderate to severe mental illness and require a range of psychotherapeutic services, including: ongoing assessment of current mental functioning, suicide risk and safety risk; emotional or mental health support, intervention and problem-solving; education and information for well-being including financial, housing and social functioning needs. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Current NVCI. Ability to see clients in the community, on site at hospital and in clients’ homes as needed.

Knowledge of Connect Care in an ambulatory setting an asset. Experience with Addiction and Mental Health Outreach role with in the last 3-5 years. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred.
