Description
Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team, this position is responsible for providing assessment and treatment recommendations to professional caregivers and family physicians regarding the management and treatment of seniors with complex mental health issues residing in Long-term Care and supported living facilities and on rehabilitation/transitional units, and for the support to professional caregivers and family members where required. This position is also responsible for consultation and liaison with other professionals along a continuum of care to facilitate a coordinated network of mental health services to seniors, and their caregivers and families. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Mental Health Consultant, you will work as a member of an interdisciplinary team responsible for providing assessment and treatment recommendations to professional caregivers and family physicians regarding the management and treatment of individuals with complex mental health disorders. You will also be responsible for the provision of education and support to professional caregivers and family members, and for consultation and liaising with other professionals along a continuum of care to facilitate a coordinated network of mental health services.
Completion of one of the following programs: Master's degree in Psychology. Master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy. Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.
Minimum 3 years mental health experience within the last 5 years which includes at least 1 years' experience in geriatric mental health. Experience working on a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with other health partner agencies. Experienced in assessment and report writing. Ability to read lab values. Experience working in a consultation role. Extensive knowledge of clinical mental health syndromes and medical issues commonly seen in the senior’s population. Proficient understanding of dementia and delirium syndromes as well as treatment practices for this subgroup of mental health clients. Ability to work in a fast-paced subacute environment. Ability to work independently and within an outreach model. Strong mental health and medical assessments, consultation and intervention skills. Excellent verbal and written communications skills essential. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Basic computer and word processing skills required. Ability to set priorities and organize time effectively.
Experience with mental health in LTC/SL settings is an asset. Connect Care training/experience is an asset.
