Reporting to the Manager and supervised by the Clinical Supervisor this Mental Health Therapist position requires a strong knowledge of Criminal Justice services and demonstrated competencies in Community Addiction and Mental Health. This position works with voluntary individuals with complex mental health and/or concurrent disorders who are experiencing conflict with the law. In collaboration with Justice Services, Provincial Court, Red Deer Remand, the Provincial Mental Health Diversion team and all community partners, the position requires competencies such as: intensive case management, mental health and addiction screening, completion of comprehensive assessments and court reports, an outreach component for those with severe mental illness and functional capacity issues and therapeutic treatment interventions that apply best practices aligned with various treatment modalities. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team treatment priorities include facilitating sustained links to community-based services and supports and involve a full spectrum of needs from the basics, such as housing and income to advanced therapies specific to addictions and mental health and the interactive relationship between these disorders using standardized tools, protocols and clinical pathways. The intentions of these services are aimed at reducing criminal activity and hospital visits, improving psychiatric status and quality of life and improving functional capacity. In combination with Justice, Community Addiction and Mental Health and community partners, both locally and provincially, your contributions to on-going program evaluation, development and implementation will be invaluable to the continued success of the program.

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Experience with trauma-informed modalities, CBT, Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused approaches would be an asset. Providing timely clinical expertise in a variety of settings including criminal court and within or alongside other addiction and mental health services is essential. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
