Description
Reporting to the Care Manager for Children Youth & Families Addiction and Mental Health, the Mental Health Therapist (MHT) with the Crisis & Stabilization Team (CAST) will provide mental health and risk assessment, triage and referral, as well as crisis intervention, de-escalation and short term brief solution focused therapy. This position will require the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and the flexibility to adjust to the demands of ongoing program development. The MHT works as part of CAST and will be required to respond to community homes/agencies to provide mobile Mental Health risk assessment and short-term intervention. The MHT will be required to provide Children’s Crisis telephone service along with appropriate intervention and response to crisis situations as needed. In addition, scheduled time providing Walk-in services utilizing a Solution Focused approach will be expected. There is a large component of case management and care coordination within the role with a strong emphasis on working with families in addition to children and youth. The MHT will also be required to liaise with the Urgent Clinic Psychiatrist, Emergency Room Consultation/ Psychiatry staff, the Psychiatrist on-call, EPS/RCMP and other community partners, as well as have significant knowledge with both facility and community resources in order to effectively assess and refer clients appropriately. Appropriate documentation and statistical data collection required.
As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Minimum of 3 years of relevant mental health experience. A minimum of 3 years direct crisis experience. Formal clinical training in triage, intervention, stabilization and case management skills, preferably in a community setting.. Extensive knowledge of resources and connect care expeirence preferred.
