Recognizing that working with children and youth brings with it a nuanced set of skills and abilities that may not be learned in a formal post-secondary education setting, The Child, Youth and Family Addiction and Mental Health Clinic provides a robust on the job learning environment with a tiered education model of learning where the therapist will build skills in the areas of play therapy, expressive art therapies, the use of sand tray in their practice, as well as child development knowledge and attachment theory. You can see this job opportunity as not only one where you can use your skills to support the needs of children and youth in our community, but where you can sharpen your skills within a multidisciplinary team. The Lethbridge Child, Youth and Family Addiction and Mental Health Clinic is looking to recruit a 1.0 FTE temporary (1-year) mental health therapist. The therapy process includes screening, assessment, collaborative treatment planning, therapeutic interventions and case management. Therapeutic interventions will include but are not limited to individual/group/family therapy and psychoeducational skill-building. Service and interventions are delivered in a hybrid model of face-to-face and virtual delivery methods. Working from a trauma-informed perspective the incumbent may provide consultation and therapeutic direction to community partners and child advocacy centres and will support capacity building in allied professionals. Some evening work is required to meet the needs of children, youth, families and communities. The Mental Health Therapist performs other related duties as directed by the Manager or his/her designate. Authorization for restricted psycho-social intervention and registration with applicable college is required. Consequential vacancy management will apply to this posting and positions.

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
