Mental Health Therapist

Reporting to the area manager and the clinical supervisor, this position entails completing intakes for outpatient mental health services, hospital consultations to the Emergency Department and Acute Care at the Cold Lake Hospital as well as holding a small caseload of clients for mental health therapy. Most intakes are completed via walk-in and entail assessing mental health status and screening for presenting symptoms and risk factors in order to determine whether they are appropriate for services. A primary function of this position includes assessing clients for risk and providing recommendations to the physician and health care team for clients presenting in the Emergency Department or who are admitted to Acute Care due to an Addictions or Mental Health concern. Crisis Intervention is an integral function of this role and the ability to be flexible within the parameters of ones day to accommodate walk-in clients, crisis phone calls and hospital consultation requests is required. The position works with children and adults, community agencies, other members of the mental health and addictions team as well as the multidisciplinary team at large. The Crisis Triage and Intake Mental Health Therapist will also be involved in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development activities, liaison with community partners, provide support with students and new staff orientation and other related duties as required. As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
