Nurse Practitioner - Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Gastroenterology

The Gastroenterology/IBD NP is an advanced practice nurse (APN) working within the outpatient department to support both adult and pediatric patients living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). This is a complimentary role to other medical colleagues, including primary care, members of the interdisciplinary team, and community patient support programs. In this role the NP may provide: Information, education, counseling, and support to empower patients to make informed decisions and to assume an active role in decision making and in the self-management of their care. In-patient consultation along with providing rapid access appointments for patients with disease exacerbations or complications associated with treatment. Follow-up appointments for patients who are stable and/or require medication monitoring. Timely follow-up after hospital discharge to help reduce readmissions. Support both prescribing and monitoring of medications and will order/perform/interpret diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as credentialed. Patient monitoring would include nutritional status (i.e. anemia, vitamin deficiencies), performing a physical exam, completing a patient history, and ensuring appropriate screening is completed. The NP will refer to other providers as necessary.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master's degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

In addition, the NP must: Participate in and maintain additional education and/or certifications specific to area of practice. Complete AHS Annual Requirements (as per MyLearningLink).
