Description
Make a difference in the lives of Albertans by joining the Clinical Neurosciences team, at the Foothills Medical Centre, as a Nurse Practitioner (NP). The Neurosurgery NP is a self-directed Advanced Practice Nurse who is educated at the graduate level and functions in a collaborative practice model. Reporting to the Manager, the NP will provide general neurosurgical medical care to adult inpatients at the FMC. As one of Canada’s largest hospitals, FMC provides advanced healthcare services to more than two million people from Calgary, southern Alberta, southeastern British Columbia and southern Saskatchewan. The NP working with the Neurosurgery service, supports neurosurgery patients at the FMC primarily on Units 101, 111, 112. These inpatient units provide care to patients who have are suffering from neurosurgical disorders through a collaborative multidisciplinary team including Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Health Care Aides, Clinical Nurse Educators, Nurse practitioners, Allied health professionals, and physicians. All disciplines work together to provide holistic care to the patient and their families. The successful incumbent must: Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and their family members and other members of the health care team; be able to work as a member of a team and also function independently; excel at working in a dynamic fast paced environment; demonstrate critical thinking, conflict resolution, and problem solving skills; flexibility in a dynamic role, where responsibilities may vary depending on the levels of learners on the team at any given time; demonstrate ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development activities.
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master's degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Current ACLS certification. Minimum of 2 years (within the last 5) experience as an NP in a relevant acute care clinical setting or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Neurosciences as an RN. Experience using an order entry and/or electronic patient record system.
Active practice as an NP in a relevant acute care clinical setting during the past two years. Experience with EPIC/Connect Care preferred. Experience in quality improvement and quality improvement certification an asset. Commitment to professional and leadership development through self-study and extra-curricular course work is an asset.
