This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and collaborative NP team providing care at the Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) in the Emergency Department. In your role as a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will utilize medical and nursing decision making, critical thinking, problem solving, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. This full scope MRP NP role will involve receiving hand over of care patients from the overnight Emergency Physicians that are awaiting further treatment, imaging or consultation. Also, assessment of patients returning to the ED for follow up and the initiation of investigations including order sets and symptom management for newly triaged patients. The NP role in the SCH ED is used to promote flow through the department by identifying patients that would benefit from early investigations or procedures, analgesics and antiemetics prior to being seen by the emergency physician. The ED NP works closely with nursing staff to manage EMS off-loaded patients and triaged patients that are waiting for a formal care space within the department. This role requires strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills as well as a strong foundation in understanding emergency department flow. The successful ED NP will have a broad background in adult presentations including those with complicated medical needs and have a comfort level with pediatric presentations. This is a new position at the SCH ED and the successful candidate with have the opportunity to support the growth and development of the role. We are bulk recruiting for 4 NP positions with negotiable FTE's.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master's degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Must be able to support a flexible work schedule. Participate in and maintain additional education and/or certifications specific to area of practice. Complete AHS Annual Requirements (as per MyLearningLink).

Application & knowledge of current research, with ongoing interest in research-based care. Experience in a wide range of emergency skills including assessment, treatment & therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures & follow-up care in the community an asset. Completion of ACLS & one or more of: PALS, TNCC, ITLS & NRP. Demonstrated clinical skills in ECG interpretation, wound closure, minor procedures, fracture management.
