The Inpatient Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Spine Nurse Practitioner (Spine NP) is an advanced practice nursing role that provides care to traumatic spine injuries and those with both acute and chronic spine conditions. This role will offer you the opportunity to integrate clinical skills to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to promote excellence in clinical spinal care practice. Utilizing your comprehensive knowledge base and exceptional ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment, you will develop cohesive care plans for orthopedic and neurosurgical spine patients. These plans will underpin your clinical decision-making to support safe and timely patient flow. Located just north of downtown Edmonton’s beautiful Ice District, you’ll find the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH): a quaternary and tertiary referral hospital which has proudly served as a leader in surgical research since the 1950s! We are a Canada Accredited Trauma Service and Northern Alberta's only level two trauma site with a catchment of over 2.5 million people. As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
The Spine NP, an advanced practice nurse (APN), is required to maintain competency in 4 domains: Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research. The successful candidate must have completed a master's degree in nursing with a focus on Advanced Clinical Practice; a minimum of 5 years (full time) of related experience as a Registered Nurse in acute care; strong written and verbal communication, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills; as well as the ability to self-direct the adaptation and evaluation of the role.
Working knowledge of EPIC Connect Care, Alberta NetCare, and IMPAX viewer is ideal. ACLS and TNCC would be an asset. Experience working with the spine patient population will be considered an asset.
