Reporting to the Program manager of NW Campus, the Occupational Therapist II (OTII) performs duties relating to the assessment, treatment, education and management of patients at the FMC outpatient clinics (APP/RCC/ MDP/EPIP). The OTII operates under the supervision of the clinical supervisor as an independent, self-directed, discipline-specific member of the multidisciplinary team. The OTII has a leadership component, responsible and accountable for provision of their own Occupational Therapy services (except group programs, when applicable) and some level of program development. This includes screening for and addressing any co-morbidity(ies) that may be part of a patient’s clinical presentation, educating and orientating staff and supporting students training. The OTII provides direct patient care activities through individual sessions for purposes of Functional Assessment of Cognition and/or assessment of any specific Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs). To guide planning for the patient’s on-going or future interventions/discharge and follow-up, anticipatory transitional needs, to mitigate future potential risks, and provide objective data for follow-up. The OTII also provides individual treatment intervention (including consultations to family), to address a patient’s specific functional concern in productivity, occupational performance or specific IADL issues, spirituality issues affecting engagement in occupations, discharge/transition planning and liaison and referral to community resources for follow-up/services. The OTII will make contributions to indirect patient care activities, including but not limited to: Clinic Case Management consultation/meetings, case conferences/family meetings.

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Minimum of 5 years overall OT experience (2 years in acute inpatient setting and 3 recent years on outpatient AMH setting). Experience with suicide risk assessment. Experience with conducting a functional assessment. Understanding of AMH Continuum of care and resources in Calgary zone. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills. Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environmen. Understanding of the Outpatient Services Redesign. Computer skills necessary. Current CPR certification. NVCI training.
