Operating Room Technician - Licensed Practical Nurse

The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Day Minor OR is a 3 theatre unit providing surgical care to patients for day surgeries and minor procedures. Our patient population includes wide range of elective Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, and Plastics. We are seeking ORTs/ LPNs that possess strong organizational skills and the ability to rapidly reprioritize patient care activities. The same day surgical nurse must efficiently balance the demand of patient care requirements for incoming pre op patient admission, intraoperative processes, and returning post-operative patient transfers. We are looking for an ORT/LPN that has been identified by peers or leadership as quick to consistently provide positive and energetic support to the team particularly during time periods of increased workload. The ideal candidate should exhibit evidence of an ability to self-identify strengths and areas for continued growth along with a commitment to those activities which promote professional development. We seek team members that possess the ability to accept change and show initiative around quality improvement.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Post- Grad Perioperative Certification required. OR Completion of a CLPNA approved perioperative course. Equivalent Operating Room experience will be considered. Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for an extended period of time as required. Ability to stand for long periods of time to support surgical team. Flexibility to rotate through all surgical specialties.

Previous perioperative nursing experience within the last 5 years. Experience in Urology and Ophthalmology Services.
