Description
Please note, this position is an Operating Room Technician (LPN) that works in the surgical suite. Under supervision of the OR Manager and Charge Nurse: assumes responsibility and accountability for the management of patient care as outlined by AHS policies, professional association standards and ORNAC standards. Will competently and effectively be able to assume the role as part of a multidisciplinary team.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Certification of successful completion of perioperative course as outlined by CLPNA standards. Ability to communicate effectively and adept communication style to meet the needs of patients/clients and to communicate with physicians in a concise and accurate manner. Reliable and dependable. Ability to safeguard AHS information as private and confidential. Assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to patient/client change in status. Proven ability to anticipate and respond to critical situations. Work effectively in a team environment. Balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Ability to follow and adhere to AHS policies and procedures, goals, and objectives. Ability to perform duties as outlined on the Physical Demand Statement (PDS) for the position. Demonstrated ability to assess own educational needs regarding knowledge and skill development and to participate in the appropriate educational opportunities. Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication. Demonstrated ability in the use of principles of time management and effective problem solving. Demonstrated skills in conflict management. Proven technical and clinical skills. Ability to mentor/precept new staff members.
3 years recent OR experience. Teaching and mentoring skills desired. Basic computer skills including Connect Care training completed.
