The Orthopedic Surgical Center (OSC ) Operating Room is comprised of 4 theatres, a 12 bed Post Anesthetic Care Unit, and 2 inpatients surgery units. The OSC is a busy and fast paced environment. This position reports to the Executive Director of RAH Operative Services, the incumbent will work with multi-disciplinary teams, and must be able to operationalize processes to support best practice in the delivery of excellent care to patients. The Patient Care Manager (PCM) is accountable and responsible for participating in strategic planning, incorporating evidence, best practice and a systems approach, working collaboratively to determine priorities, develop plans, implement action and evaluate results The PCM is required to accomplish improved outcomes and efficiency, effectiveness, quality and safety of care, patient and staff satisfaction and cost containment while meeting the vision, mission and business plan of AHS. The PCM manages the operating budgets for the patient care service consistent with the plans and general guidelines established by Alberta Health Services (AHS) and senior management. The PCM provides leadership to employees, ensuring staff receive performance feedback to guide and achieve their accountabilities. The PCM maintains collaborative working relationships and facilitates the implementation of changes to structure and processes in order to accomplish improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, and quality of care, promotes an environment where team members are encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge to meet patient and family care needs.

This position provides direct leadership and mentorship for three-unit managers in the Orthopedic Surgery Centre (OSC) and is responsible and accountable for making program related decisions. Assessing, planning, directing and evaluating the operations and activities of the OSC within established policies, guidelines and regulations. Participating int he budgets process and monitoring financial position of the sites through variance report analysis. Providing support to the Executive Director and team on all aspects of related services within RAH Operative Services portfolio. Maintain and manage influential working relationships with teams' members and management and resolve broad technical areas and /or functional issues.

BScN or a post-secondary degree in a related field is required with at least five years’ experience in a Management role in an Operating Room setting. Strong leadership skills combined with the ability to motivate and promote a positive environment that is open to change, new approaches to care, and the organization of services is essential. Must be eligible for registration with the appropriate professional association. Experience and understanding of finance and human resources management required.

Understanding the zone structure is an asset. A minimum of 5 years in a hospital ideally in an organization of similar size, complexity and diversity. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Current operating room experience in an acute care setting is required. Responsible to maintain active registration with the College of Registered Nurses in Alberta through the duration of employment. Recent leadership experience in surgical suite required.

Experience with changed management and lean leadership is an asset. A strong knowledge and skill set in strategic planning is an asset. Strong leadership skill is essential. This is combined with the ability to motivate and promote a positive environment that is open and supportive to change and innovation. Proven coaching and mentorships skills required as well as excellent conflict resolution and communication skills. Demonstrated computer literacy to support Connect Care concerns.
