Description
This Pharmacist I position will support the Ponoka General Hospital Pharmacy team 2 days a week in person, the Lacombe Hospital Pharmacy team 1 day a week in person and the larger Central Zone South Pharmacy team by providing remote coverage as needed. The Ponoka hospital is a 36 bed acute care facility that includes 28 continuing care beds. Lacombe Hospital Pharmacy supports 31 acute care beds as well as 73 continuing care beds. Both sites primarily provide general medicine care where both teams provide distribution and clinical services to Acute, Continuing Care and Emergency patients at the site. The Ponoka and Lacombe Hospitals provide a supportive, multidisciplinary environment for pharmacists. The pharmacy departments at both sites are supported by a team of pharmacy technicians and assistants working towards their full scope of practice to allow the pharmacists to focus on clinical activities and working to their full scope of practice.
As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).
Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) from the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP). Successful candidates not having APA will be expected to obtain it within 6 months of commencing in this position. Pharmacy related experience in a hospital setting or in direct patient care providing comprehensive medication management services. Recent experience as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Experience with computerized medication order entry, and different drug distribution systems such as unit dose.
Demonstrated self-directed learning and continuing education. Demonstrated good time management including ability to switch priorities and multitask. Demonstrated excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, good organizational and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated; able to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment. Rural hospital experience an asset.
