Description
Pharmacy Assistants work in a team under the direct supervision of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists working to their full scope of practice. Under limited supervision of the Operations Manager, the Pharmacy Assistant performs various essential medication related duties on behalf of our Pharmacy Services Program, including but not limited to: ability to accept and follow clear direction on workflow process required from Regulated Professionals, medication selection and quantity replenishment to established quotas in a timely manner, transport and delivery to care unit and departments, repackage and label for final check by Regulated Healthcare Professionals, transfer and credit inventory including controlled substances according to procedure, inventory rotation to minimize outdated medications, order and receive supplies and medications, demonstrating values of respectful behavior maintaining collaboration and communication in the work environment, and clerical duties as assigned. Perform routine physical cleaning and maintenance on pharmacy equipment, maintaining a safe and tidy workspace. Prepare reports from pharmacy systems including filing associated with all duties. Communicates unit-based and clinical issues to Regulated Pharmacy staff for resolution. Participates in hospital, departmental and/or quality assurance activities to ensure standards are maintained. Assist in training of new employees or students as required. Perform other duties as assigned. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Recent hospital pharmacy experience in rural, remote locations in North Zone is an asset, with working knowledge of Pharmacy terms and medication names. Retail pharmacy experience and graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program acceptable to the Employer. Demonstrate proficiency in the following: communication (verbal and written), interpersonal abilities, organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in teams as required, computer skills. Must be in good physical condition as majority of shift involves: typing, static positions, visual acuity, heavy lifting and grip strength, twisting, standing, crouching, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods of time. Demonstration of reliability required of essential work in healthcare.
EPIC & EPIC Inventory experience. Service provision of both acute & long term patient care. Distribution experience specific to: barcoding, compounding & repackaging, dispensing functionality, medication transfers - ordering - receiving, monitoring - par & opti - medication recalls - medication backorders, rural experience in North Zone.
