Description
The Program Manager, Patient Care is a key leadership role in the patient care service and reports directly to the SHC Executive Director for Critical Care, Emergency, Medical Services, Cardiac Sciences, and Respiratory. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership and organization over the activities of patient care services and administrative operations in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. These activities also will include the integration of various resources to carry out these activities. The position is also responsible and accountable for making key decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for establishing and contributing to the achievement of the goals of the patient care service. The Program Manager, Patient Care will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including physician dyad partners to provide leadership to the patient care service.
The Program Manager is responsible for a substantial ambulatory and procedural service including the following: Cardiac Sciences, Clinical Neurosciences, and Medical Services (Cardiac Diagnostics, HPTP, Day Medicine, and Endoscopy). The successful candidate must have established skills related to project and change management related to process improvement. In addition, the position requires proficient communication skills including negotiation and conflict management. The candidate must be innovative and progressive and a motivational leader. Current ambulatory experience is essential due to the complexity and diversity of multiple departments. Knowledge of current EPIC processes within an ambulatory setting. In collaboration with the three Unit Managers, the Program Manager will act as the supervisor for multiple staff from various Collective Agreements: UNA, AUPE, and HSAA.
A minimum Baccalaureate Degree in Healthcare Field plus appropriate licenses and designations. A minimum of 5 years in a similar leadership/management role ideally in an area of significant size, complexity and diversity (healthcare experience required). Experience with both acute care and community/primary care is ideal. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.

Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire other to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners.
