Unit 3-4 at Alberta Hospital is a 19 bed Subacute Adult Forensic unit that provides mental health assessment, treatment and support to vulnerable individuals with significant mental health and addiction issues, who have a legal disposition. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Psychiatric Aide is responsible for meeting the personal care needs and comforts of the patients. Duties will include but not limited to assisting with the provision of routine daily care to meet patient’s hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs. They should be prepared to assist with organized activities/programs and observing patients’ mood, health, and well- being including maintaining constant observation for patients. You will play a critical role in maintaining the safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors while effectively engaging and communicating with patients and other health professionals. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient¿s mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.

Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.

Two years’ recent experience in Addictions and Mental Health setting. Non-violent crisis intervention training. Sound observation and strong verbal communication skills. Able to work effectively as a team and problem solve using critical thinking. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in daily schedule and patient acuity changes. Working knowledge of patient and family centered principles.

Preference will be given to candidates with minimum 2 Years Forensic/Corrections experience. Health Care Aide certificate and Mental Health First Aid certificate. Working knowledge of the CoACT model of care. Working knowledge of trauma informed care. Working knowledge of addictions/substance use disorders.
