Reporting to the unit manager, the Psychiatric Aide provides patient care as a member of the health care team under the supervision of an RPN/RN. You will integrate patient/family centered car principles into your practice while maintaining patient/family/staff confidentiality. You will participate in the delivery of quality patient care by assisting with basic personal care and hygiene, lifting and transferring of patients, patient nutrition, safety needs as well as, escorting patients to off-site appointments. You will handle the physical demands of the position and perform duties which involve periods of standing, walking, bending, turning, lifting, and transferring patients. You will provide cognitive, social, emotional and psychological support to patients, including des-escalation techniques/strategies. You will observe and report relevant patient information to the nurse. You will also assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients and their families, visitors and staff, including code response, and observing and reporting of relevant safety issues and risk factors. You will be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The CS Unregulated Staff Team provides casual relief coverage across all clinical programs; Adult Inpatient Acute Services, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Concurrent Disorder Enhanced Service, Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury and Senior Mental Health Program. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient¿s mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.

Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.

Graduate from or enrolled in a provincially recognized education program for HCA or have a post-secondary educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the provincial HCA curriculum or successful completion of a provincially recognized program for HCA within two years of commencement of employment. Must be able to communicate clearly in verbal and written English. Must be self-directed and motivated to provide high quality patient care. Must be capable of working in a rapid paced environment while dealing with multiple clinical demands. Must maintain a respectful, tactful, and professional composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances. Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/ families and interdisciplinary team members. excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment.
