This is an exciting opportunity for a Recreational Aide in the Adult Inpatient Program, Complex Services at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury. CCMHBI is a campus of specialists and health professionals that are committed to integrated, multi-disciplinary care and treatment to ensure the best outcomes for patients and their families. This position requires a highly motivated individual that is keenly interested in working with people. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are large contributors to success in this position. The successful applicant is able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team to support addiction and mental health patients and assist in planning and implementation of recreational and leisure activities. Reporting to the Unit Manager and working in consultation with the Recreation Therapist and Therapy Assistant, you will coordinate unit, off unit and community programs and other activities. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Recreation Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, speech language, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.

Completion of Grade 12.

Completion of Health Care Aide or Mental Health Aide Certificate or equivalent. Current BCLS-HCP Level C-Health Care Provider. Have the ability to communicate effectively with the public, patients and staff. At least one year of experience working with patients in a mental health setting.

Valid Class 4 Driver License preferred. Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCI). Skills in a variety of recreational activities are desirable.
