The city of Grande Prairie is located in northwest Alberta and has something for everyone! We are a growing city with close to 70,000 residents. In addition to a state of the art recreation facility, there are many outdoor and indoor activities available at our numerous parks and golf courses. Grande Prairie also has a vibrant arts and culture community, live theatre and a multitude of dining and shopping opportunities. This position is based in Mackenzie Place and provides therapeutic recreation programs to the 71 residents of this Type B facility. The Recreation Therapist provides evidence based practice and meets recreation therapy standards of practice, while actively collaborating with Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Work, and Nursing. This position will assist with the promotion of a comprehensive service for clients developing and implementing evidence based, client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards of practice. The Recreation Therapist is responsible for direct patient care, supervision of therapy assistants, and participation in program maintenance and evaluation. This program has a very strong focus on client centered care provided by an interdisciplinary team to achieve the client's goals. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) is required.

The ability to obtain a Class 4 driver’s license and drive a 10 passenger recreation bus would be considered to be an asset. Experience in program development is preferred.
