The Labour and Delivery (L&D) unit at Peter Lougheed Centre aims to attract and retain high quality registered nurses who will provide excellence in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care delivered to women across the perinatal continuum. Our L&D unit is a diverse, dynamic and fast paced environment seeing approximately 500 births per month. As the L&D RN, you will utilize your critical thinking skills and you will consistently practice cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity within the interdisciplinary team setting. As an effective communicator, you will provide family centred teaching and care, focusing on health promotion and infant nutrition. You will provide holistic, comprehensive and family centered care to individuals, families and the community, both independently and collaboratively as a member of the healthcare team. This includes delivery of antepartum care for complex patients, triage care for diverse pregnancy related issues, intrapartum care in both the delivery room, pregnancy loss and/or operating room as well as postpartum care for both mother and newborn, which may include care of patients on the postpartum unit. In addition, you will be expected to provide patient centered care within the operating room and recovery room settings, in accordance with the ORNAC standards. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate decision making, organization, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills; build and maintain relationships with patients, families and the interdisciplinary team; show initiative and independence; foster positive relationships in a team environment and demonstrate the values of AHS in professional practice.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Experience in an Urban Labour and Delivery unit within the last 6 months or 2 years’ experience in a critical care nursing unit (i.e. ER, ICU, OR, NICU) within the last 3 years. 3 years’ experience in an Urban Post-Partum unit within the last 4 years’. Successful completion of a 4th year preceptorship in an urban L&D will be considered.

Bachelor of Nursing. Current NRP (Lessons 1-9). Current Fetal Health Surveillance. CNA Perinatal Certificate. Experience working with antepartum patients and/or postpartum families. Charge Nurse experience. Experience with the MOREob program (participant and/or instructor). Completion of AHS breastfeeding modules or IBCLC certification. Demonstrated professional development and/or participation in quality improvement initiatives.
