Registered Nurse - Labour and Delivery

Patient Care Unit 51, Foothills Medical Centre, is a tertiary level Labour & Delivery Unit, including Triage and High Risk Antepartum. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide patient and family centered nursing care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and immediate postpartum period. You will work within a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic, fast paced area, which requires the ability to communicate effectively in a professional and respectful manner to ensure safe, quality care is provided. Over time, you will have the opportunity to provide nursing care in different areas within the unit including Labour & Delivery, the 7th floor Elective Cesarean Section Slate, Triage, High Risk Antepartum, the Labor and Delivery Operating/Recovery Room, and High Risk Rooms. As a member of the Labour and Delivery team it is expected that you will maintain all required certifications and competencies while working on the unit, adhere to policies, procedures, practice guidelines, AHS Values and Code of Conduct. Characteristics and abilities that will contribute to success in this area include: resiliency, accountability, concern for accuracy, physical stamina, and manual dexterity. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Able to work effectively in stressful and emergent situations. Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary health care team. Demonstrated effective time management, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time. Able to lift, push, pull equipment, including, but not limited to stretchers and labor beds with patient. Able to participate in patient positioning and transfers.

Previous obstetrical nursing experience. Recent critical care, medical surgical, and/or Operating Room experience. Current NRP Certification. Current Fetal Health Surveillance Certification. Skill set in infant assessment, nutrition and feeding. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and risk management principles.
