Within the Women’s Health program, SHC has implemented a new and exciting approach to family centered and maternity care: Single Room Maternity Care (SRMC). An RN operating in a SRMC model, will require competence across the spectrum of antenatal, labour and delivery, postpartum and newborn care. In addition, the RN may have the exciting opportunity to work in the obstetrical operating room and maternity triage. The Women’s Health RN provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation across a continuum of care, with the purpose of providing safe, quality care for women and families while reflecting the shared vision of SHC. The RN will be guided by their education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, and position description.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Recent experience in a Level 2 or 3 Labour and Delivery unit (1 year full time equivalent in the last 5 years). Recent experience in antepartum and postpartum care (1 year full time equivalent in the last 5 years). Experience with perinatal loss. Demonstrated excellence in respectful inter-professional communication. Patient/Client/Family/Community-Centered Care. Leadership and critical thinking skills. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Understanding of teaching/learning concepts. Demonstrated excellence in performing as part of a high-functioning team. Demonstrated excellence in providing customer service.

Recent obstetrical OR (scrub and circulating) & Charge nurse experience. Obstetrical triage experience at a level 2 or 3 hospital. Experience in precepting/mentoring new staff and students. Candidates with experience in ER, ICU, postpartum or NICU or med/surg may be considered. Candidates who have completed a final practicum in Labour and Delivery, Rural Labour & Delivery or Acute Care experience may be considered. Up-to-date Fetal Health Surveillance experience & NRP.
