The Cardiology Registered Nurse (RN) in Medical Cardiology works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and/or communities within the level of competency. The Registered Nurse provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to promote, maintain or restore health, prevent illness, injury and disability or support a peaceful death. The Registered Nurse provides care throughout the life span, in all stages of health and complexities of illness. The Registered Nurse is accountable to the public for their practice, which is monitored and regulated (Province of Alberta Nursing Profession Act). The Registered Nurse is responsible for ensuring that practice meets legislative requirements, the practice standards of the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) Practice Standards and the code of ethics (Canadian Nurses’ Association Code of Ethics). The Registered Nurse is guided by their level of education, expertise, experience, demonstrated skill level, AHS policies and job description.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Recent (within 1 year) experience in an acute care setting at the full scope of practice. Must pass cardiac sciences core orientation and dysrhythmia certification exam, within 60 days of hire, per unit standard to ensure a safe standard of care. Must possess the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, and bending, reaching and sustained posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 30 lbs. Demonstrated ability to perform and document physical assessments. Demonstrated ability to administer medications within the acute care setting. Demonstrated critical thinking skills, clinical judgment and problem-solving. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective interpersonal communication skills. Basic computer skills. Ability to work as a leader and team player.
