The Stollery Children's Hospital is proud to introduce our Seasonal Part Time Positions (SPTP) that allow you to make a significant and meaningful impact in pediatric care, while also providing you the opportunity of extended scheduled breaks. We are seeking compassionate & skilled Registered Nurses to join the Stollery Inpatient Units in managing the increased demands of the pediatric surge season. As a valued member of the Stollery Surge relief team, you will fulfill your annual FTE commitment of 87 shifts in 365 days within a concentrated timeframe. Within this SPTP, all scheduled hours will fall within a compressed work period of 8 months within the 12-month shift cycle, with a potential of altering the worked portion up +/- two months in subsequent years. This opportunity gives you all the benefits, security, and stability that come with a permanent role within our nursing team while also unlocking extended periods of designated time off. This Stollery Surge position works within the Pediatric Inpatient Programs and is cross trained to the inpatient units and surge beds. Employees are given the opportunity for professional growth, which includes participation in unit-based safety/education sessions, senior skill certifications, unit quality councils, & broader AHS initiatives. The Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton is a full-service pediatric hospital & centre for complex pediatric care & research. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse in pediatrics provides leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation, & evaluation of nursing care for pediatric patients under both, University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) & Stollery Children’s Hospital, policies, & procedures. The Registered Nurse practices to full scope as defined by the College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Successfully pass the Stollery PEARS course (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization Course), completed in orientation. Successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration exam (pass 90%). Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, problem-solving, organizational skills, and effective time management. Strong decision-making, assessment, and critical thinking skills. Ability to adapt and work within a fast-paced, and time-sensitive environment with competing responsibilities. Preference will be given to the candidate with a minimum of 2 years of acute pediatric experience as an RN within the last 5 years. Experience with children with tracheostomies, peritoneal dialysis, and medically fragile patient populations is considered an asset. Connect Care training and experience are considered an asset.
