Description
In this role you report to the Manager of CRH Inpatient Psychiatry, Addiction and Mental Health. This position functions as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide quality, client focused, culturally appropriate Addiction and Mental Health intervention and stabilization, as well as continuity of care for patients who require support in relation to Addictions and Mental Health. The nurse will be required to provide assessment and crisis intervention to individuals presenting the CRH Emergency Department with Addiction and Mental Health concerns. This position functions primarily in the Emergency Department, but as time permits can also provide liaison and consultation support to other units in CRH. The main focus of this position is to provide Addiction and Mental Health expertise in the CRH and to help build capacity within the CRH to care for the Addiction and Mental Health needs of patients. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Minimum two (2) years’ within the last five (5) years' experience working within an Acute Addiction and Mental Health role. Ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a concise, professional and timely manner. Demonstrated competency in psychiatric assessment and crisis intervention. Working knowledge of mental health/mental illness across populations and of DSM V diagnosis. Thorough working knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health system. Provide coaching and mentorship to peers. Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity and a heterogeneous patient population. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a stressful environment and effectively resolve conflict. Ability to be self-directed and exercise independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals. Excellent written, verbal and computer processing skills.
