The Acute Services Units within the Adult Inpatient Program at The Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury provide comprehensive assessment, treatment, and stabilization services to individuals 18-64 years of age who have a severe and persistent mental illness and/or are experiencing an acute mental health crisis and/or addiction illness. You will report to the Unit Manager or designate Manager. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse/ Registered Nurse - Laurier will provide direct nursing care following the full scope of practice as set out by the College of Alberta Registered Nurses and/or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses Alberta and the Health Professions Act. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse/ Registered Nurse will have a strong foundation in mental health and addictions. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, with due consideration provided for family and appropriate others. You will ensure the effective operation of the unit when assuming designated responsibilities and contribute to the learning experience of students, staff, and patients. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Demonstrated leadership, team building, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an outstanding customer focused attitude. Knowledge of mental health assessments, treatment methodologies and intervention strategies. Competent assessment of behavioral risks and interventions in ensuring safety of patient, self and others. Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations within a fast-paced environment with varying levels of acuity. Knowledge of and competent de-escalation skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in fluent English. Physically and emotionally, carry out the duties of the position. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong initiative and ability to work independently with limited supervision. Proven ability to work positively, effectively, and cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team. Maintain a commitment to continued professional development.
