The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides leadership & expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy & works with the team to assist in the diagnosis & management of patients. You will actively participate in the education of patients, students, staff, physicians & self; maintain a professional & accountable practice; advocate professionally & effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centered care & provide technical support for all equipment related to the hospital-based practice of Respiratory Therapy. You will facilitate staff development & mentoring of all RRT staff. You will be expected to contribute to department & service area process improvement & maintain professional practice including ongoing professional development, promotion of a healthy, respectful, safe & supportive work environment, demonstration of accountability & enthusiasm towards developing & contributing to the Respiratory Therapist role in ICU & NICU. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment & treatment in the ICU & NICU & assist with the development of clinical protocols. You will develop & implement respiratory therapy care plans & monitor the progress of patients receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will help identify new equipment requirements & establish & maintain adequate levels of supplies & materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including operation, maintenance & quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient rounds, conferences & meetings where applicable. All RRT positions at Rockyview are expected to be able to work in all areas that Respiratory clinically supports. Primary assignment is float, ICU & NICU. Current rotation is a combination of 2 to 3 12-hour day shifts followed by 2 to 3 consecutive days off.

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Minimum 5 years current clinical Respiratory Therapy experience in an adult ICU and 5 years current Level II/III NICU experience. A demonstrated pattern of professional development: display interpersonal, communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills; ability to manage competing priorities, be self-directed, exercise independent decision making and effectively resolve conflict; and promotion of a healthy, respectful and safe work environment are required. Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS certification including expiration date. The focus of the role will include the following: Act as a clinical resource for all members of the interprofessional team, support family centered care in the ICU and NICU, work collaboratively with the ICU and NICU supervisors and educator to design, implement and monitor practice change. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs.

Current Independent RRT acute care experience in the last 5 years in ICU, ED, Wards, NICU, Outreach. Charge experience. RGH site orientation. NRP/PALS/ACLS/CRE/CTE/CAE certification or instructor. CSRT membership. Health related degree. Professional development courses (last 3 years) WISE/sim training. Formal preceptor training. Tobacco reduction training. Current participation in a healthcare committee or working group. Art line and Intubation certification.
