The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) is one of Alberta’s largest and longest-serving hospitals. Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, the RAH serves a diverse community, including some of our province’s most vulnerable populations. They operate 869 beds and care for approximately 450,000 patients annually. The RAH is home to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women and Women's Health Centre, the Regional Eye Centre, and the Aboriginal Health program, in addition to a wide range of child, adult and geriatric programs and services. Within the guidelines and policies set down by Respiratory Therapy Services, the Respiratory Therapist I will provide respiratory care to patients in Adult Floors and ICU

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

The successful candidate must be a graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy and eligible to write, or have passed, the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC). Maintaining current active registration in good standing with CRTA throughout the duration of employment. Maintaining current basic life support (BLS-HCP) certification and providing proof of active certification annually. Your quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations. You must demonstrate competency in all phases of the job, adaptability to new procedures and information, be current in respiratory therapy advances and changes in department practices, policies and procedures. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. You must be highly motivated, confident, enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude whose work aligns with AHS Values. You act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion, seeking counsel when appropriate. You work independently and as a part of the team creating effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You are a reliable worker who uses time effectively, able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.

The preferred qualifications include current acute care experience in a tertiary teaching hospital, orientation to the position’s major and minor clinical areas, current charge therapist experience, experience precepting students, developing quality initiatives and implementing practice change, and active participation on committees. Certification in Advanced Life Support, Arterial Line Insertion, Intubation, and IV Insertion. Current member of Rapid Response team.
