The Community Accessible Rehabilitation (CAR) - Pulmonary Rehab is an interdisciplinary ambulatory program which delivers exercise and education programming to promote self- management for individuals living with moderate to severe chronic lung disease. We are looking for a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) who is a self-starter with a strong clinical background and enthusiastic personality to join our Pulmonary Rehabilitation team. The RRT will perform clinical assessments, design and supervise exercise programming, and deliver patient education as part of a high-performing team with the goal of providing patient-centered care while meeting the national quality indicators of Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Service delivery is a blend of in-person and virtual programming, delivered in individualized and group formats. The team works collaboratively to problem solve, triage referrals, organize program structure and schedule, and support each other for ongoing learning and growth. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following respiratory-specific knowledge, skills, and proficiency: Extensive knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology of obstructive/ restrictive lung diseases. Assess respiratory conditions, tobacco history, and respiratory medications. Ability to educate inhaler use and medication delivery. Assess and understand patient home oxygen system and needs. Assess and develop routines to address airway clearance needs. CAR is a multisite program, and this position is based at the South Calgary Health Centre. Travel between sites is not currently required.

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) designation. Minimum three years of experience, in the past five years, working with adults who live with chronic lung conditions including COPD and ILD. Demonstrated proficiency in group facilitation in both in-person and virtual formats. Demonstrated expertise providing COPD and asthma education including disease process, trigger identification, avoidance, respiratory medications, and delivery devices. Knowledge of portable home oxygen systems as it pertains to patient’s disease status and needs in community settings. Experience providing respiratory therapy services for clients in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team members. 7) Experience in effectively communicating respiratory-related issues or concerns to physicians, health care and other service providers as appropriate. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with a wide variety of clients, health care providers, and team members. Excellent communicator, including verbal, written, and listening skills; and Current Heart & Stroke BLS certification.

Experience working with adult respiratory patients using exercise for assessment and therapy. Demonstrated education/training in chronic disease management, motivational interviewing, and health coaching, including Health Change Methodology. Experience with virtual health care delivery (i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams) Knowledge of other respiratory services and tobacco reduction resources. Knowledge of information systems, databases, and computers.
