Working as part of an inter-disciplinary team, the Bronchoscopy Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RRTI) is involved in the diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients with respiratory diseases, respiratory failure and associated medical and/or surgical problems in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for developing, implementing and following up on respiratory care plans, performing respiratory care procedures and training students. This position functions as a Respiratory Therapist I - Bronchoscopy Suite expert in diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy. This position provides leadership by demonstrating expertise in bronchoscopy and bronchoscopy equipment, excellent patient care and ongoing education to colleagues and other health care professionals. This position also supports all respiratory programs as the primary resource for bronchoscopy. The RTBS collaborates with the Respiratory Therapy Professional Advisory Council (RTPAC) to provide input into the revision of existing policies and procedures. This position cooperates and provides input to clinical educators in multiple health disciplines to train students and Respiratory Therapists to a higher level of knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy. The Bronchoscopy RRTI will provide support to the inpatient units as required.

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification is required. Your quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations. You must demonstrate competency in all phases of the job, adaptability to new procedures and information, be current in respiratory therapy advances and changes in department practices, policies and procedures. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. You must be highly motivated, confident, and enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude whose work aligns with AHS Values. You act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion, seeking counsel when appropriate. You can work independently and as a part of the team creating strong, effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You are a reliable worker who uses time effectively and is able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. Current experience providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures are required.

Acute or critical care experience. Orientation to the Bronchoscopy Suite. Current charge experience. Experience precepting students, developing quality initiatives and implementing practice change, and active committee participant. Certification in Advanced Life Support, , Arterial Line Insertion. Current Medical Emergency team and Severe Illness team member.
