Description
The Rockyview General Hospital Intensive Care Unit is excited to be expanding and moving into a new space overlooking the Glenmore Reservoir in the new year and we want you to join our dynamic critical care team. The respiratory therapy department will also move into a new department adjacent to the ICU/CCU (total of 25 beds). The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides leadership and expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy and will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. You will actively participate in the education of patients, students, staff, and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centered care; and provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. All RRT positions at Rockyview General Hospital are expected to be able to work in all areas that Respiratory Services clinically supports if required. Daily service area assignments can be adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet department and operational needs. A demonstrated pattern of professional development; display of interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to manage competing priorities, be self-directed, exercise independent decision making and effectively resolve conflict; and promotion of a healthy, respectful, and safe work environment are required.
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.
Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS certification including expiration date. Minimum 1-year independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience within the last 3 years in an acute care hospital setting. Consideration may be given to graduates of a Respiratory Therapy program who have completed a final practicum in an acute care setting. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting, and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs.
Recent acute care respiratory therapy experience preferred. Certified Tobacco cessation training preferred. Current NRP/PALS/ACLS certification preferred. CSRT membership active or eligible. Preceptor training course. RGH site orientation.
