We are seeking a skilled & compassionate Registered Respiratory Therapist to join the Acute and Critical Care team at the Chinook Regional Hospital in sunny Lethbridge, Alberta. The Chinook Regional Hospital houses a 20 bed ICU, 16 bed level 2+ NICU, 11 bed Pediatric unit, level 3 trauma center, an active OR & multiple medical and surgical inpatient units. As a Respiratory Therapist I at CRH, you will work to full scope of practice providing respiratory care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients of all ages with cardiopulmonary & related disorders. You will actively participate in the education of patients, students, staff & physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional & accountable practice; advocate professionally & effectively for patients using the principles of patient & family-centered care & provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. Respiratory Therapists at CRH are expected to cover all areas to which they have been orientated and that Respiratory Services supports, when required. A demonstrated pattern of professional development; display of interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to manage competing priorities, exercise independent decision-making and effectively resolve conflict; and promotion of a healthy, respectful, & safe work environment are required.

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy and eligible to write, or have passed, the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by Health Professionals Testing Canada (HPTC). Current BLS certification including expiration date. Minimum 6 months current independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience in an acute care hospital setting. Consideration may be given to graduates of a Respiratory Therapy program who have completed a final practicum in an acute care setting. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs.

Independent RRT acute care experience in the last 3 years in: ICU, Emergency, Wards, NICU. Bachelor’s degree - health related. NRP/PALS/ACLS. CSRT registration. Completion of professional development courses. Preceptor training course. Competency in Arterial line insertion. Competency in Adult intubation.
