Description
Working at the Chinook Regional Hospital in sunny, Lethbridge Alberta, the operating room Respiratory Therapist II provides leadership and expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy. You will work collaboratively with the operating room team to perform or assist with advanced respiratory procedures (such as airway management, laryngoscopy, endotracheal intubation, central venous line insertion, drug preparation, peripheral venous cannulation, arterial line insertion, and arterial blood gas sampling & analysis) for patients requiring/under anesthesia in neonatal, pediatric, & adult populations. You will also be responsible for the daily set-up and verification of anesthetic machines and equipment and for providing room relief for anesthesiologists for short periods of time. You will actively participate in the education of patients, families, students, staff and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centered care; and provide technical support for Respiratory Therapy equipment. A demonstrated pattern of professional development; display of interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to manage competing priorities, be self-directed, exercise independent decision-making and effectively resolve conflict; and promotion of a healthy, respectful, and safe work environment are required.
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.
Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Current BLS-HCP certification. Recent acute care and critical care experience (in past 5 years). Ability to perform the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; being able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20 lbs.
Previous experience working as a RRT in an OR environment. Recent acute and/or critical care experience. Preceptor experience with respiratory therapy students. Completion of a preceptor training course. Relevant Degree. Competency in performing adult Intubation & Arterial Line Insertion. PVAD insertion and management certification. Current ACLS, NRP, and PALS certification.
