Description
Under the general direction of the Manager, External Financial Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst will support the Financial Reporting team in delivering financial reporting services within the AHS consolidated environment. The Senior Financial Analyst will primarily be focused on internal and external reporting and associated elements and may also be required to assist with preparation and review of financial reports for accountable grants. This job will encompass a variety of projects and tasks which could include assisting in the preparation and coordination of the external audit processes from planning and execution to final fieldwork and reporting of audit results for AHS and its controlled subsidiaries, reporting accurate, relevant, reliable and timely financial reporting to senior executives, the AHS Board, and the public. This will include monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, and other reporting as required, research of technical accounting issues, interpret applicability to AHS, and recommend financial statement treatment to the external financial reporting management team, preparation of regulatory returns such as charity returns, T2s for AHS controlled entities, preparation of and assistance with external grant reporting as required and coaching and mentoring of CPA students. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will coordinate and/or prepare complex financial and statistical analysis and reports, along with providing interpretation of analyses and reports to support business and external requirements. Your work will be focused on budgets, forecasting, recommendations for program and/or cost efficiencies and development or enhancements to processes and controls. In addition, you will coordinate and monitor progress of financial projects, as well as coach and guide other department staff such as Financial Analysts.
Post secondary degree specializing in accounting or related field (e.g. economics, statistics).
Knowledgeable of accounting principles and financial statement preparation for large and complex clients in a public sector setting. Experience in managing a single entity financial statement audit including the preparation of the required audited financial statements. Knowledge of tax return preparation including charity returns and T2s. Proven ability to work with stakeholders to prepare effective variance analysis for the regular financial reporting cycle. Ability to work within tight reporting deadlines. Strong working knowledge of MS office suit applications specifically Excel and Word. Ability to function within a collaborative team environment. Excellent communication, analytical and organizations skills. Ability to work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.
Has demonstrated strong and current understanding of PSAS and other sectors of GAAP. 3-5 years of accounting/financial reporting experience with preference given to experience within a large, complex public sector entity is preferred. Chartered Professional Accounting designation is preferred. Experience with mentoring CPA students is preferred.
