An individual proven ability to manage, mentor, motivate and lead team members and stakeholders. Experience with the management of professional and/or unionized staff. Knowledge of construction project management concepts, methods and practices. Knowledge of applicable provincial, regional and municipal bylaws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of construction contract law and procurement rules, regulations and requirements. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills including facilitation and presentation skills. Proven capacity to work well under pressure Excellent analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated knowledge of computerized project management and engineering programs. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional software. Capacity to achieve organizational goals and project management objectives such as budgets, schedules and service delivery requirements. Ability to read and interpret construction documentation and contracts. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership, and project and program management.

The Senior Project Manager is a leadership role within the Design & Construction Project Management department and reports directly to the Program Manager. This position assists their direct reports with the planning, delivery and evaluation of project management services in their zone in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The Senior Project Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships. As part of this the Senior Project Manager will support, manage and monitor their direct reports to ensure the overall department goals and objectives are achieved within scope, budget and schedule. They will provide clear direction and supervision to Project Management Coordinators, Project Support Administrators and other staff as assigned. The Senior Project Manager must also contribute to AHS’ success by: Providing expert technical, design, construction, and business advice/influence to administration on opportunities and liabilities for capital projects as assigned. Effectively leading a team of professional, technical and contract staff responsible for the timely and cost-effective implementation of all projects within the respective Zone. Evaluating and implementing energy management cost saving strategies for projects. Managing a safe, effective and efficient team of direct reports. Providing proactive strategic planning for the optimization of the best project implementation strategies for the projects and sites within the Zone. Adapting to a changing medical, administrative and regulatory environment. Promoting and providing appropriate guidelines for workplace health, safety and infection prevention and control. Participate in assigned committees related to overall project design and construction.

Bachelor Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Project Management (Building Construction) or a Technology Diploma in Architecture, Building or Engineering equivalent.

10 years in a construction project management role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity.

Planning and project management of heath care projects within a fully operating Acute Care facility. Experience working with and/or managing external consultants, contractors, government agencies and regulators.
