Unit 3-4 at Alberta Hospital Edmonton is a subacute forensic psychiatric unit, specializing in assessment and treatment of patients who have a legal disposition and have significant mental illness. This is a 19-bed unit, housed in building 3. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Social Worker 11 in this position would work both independently and with multi-disciplinary teams providing family and patient centered care and support within the forensic portfolio. Support may include, but is not limited to, supportive counselling, resource-based interventions, completing psychosocial assessments, comprehensive risk assessments, cognitive screening, supporting transitions and discharge planning. The successful Social Worker II in this position must be one who has excellent working knowledge of community and financial resources (AISH, Income Support, Canada Pension, Alberta Seniors Benefits) as well as various legislative acts that impact health services (Personal Directives Act, AGTA, Mental Health Act). The Social Worker will make appropriate referrals to services that are both internal and external to the healthcare setting and works collaboratively with community agencies/programs to benefit patients and families. This position requires the ability to prioritize workload, analyze complex problems and identify viable care plans and solutions to address psychosocial needs. The successful applicant is an assertive, proactive individual with a strong foundation in mental health and addictions and excels at working professionally and independently in a collaborative, fast-paced, positive team environment that requires excellent assessment, prioritization, conflict resolution, critical thinking and decision-making skills.

As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Active registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). Excellent knowledge of Mental Health and addictions. Minimum 2 years working experience in mental health and addiction setting. Proficiency in computer programs - Connect Care, Outlook, MS Office, Teams, Zoom, etc. Working knowledge of Trauma Informed Care. Working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Forensic and correctional experience preferred. Experience working in an interdisciplinary team is preferred. Knowledge of relevant legislative Acts including the Personal Directives Act, AGTA and awareness of capacity assessment processes is an asset. In-depth knowledge of working with Income Support programs at a community/provincial/federal level (AISH, Alberta Works, CPP, OAS, ASB, EI, etc.) is preferred. Minimum 2 years of mental health and addiction Social Work experience preferred.
