Description
We are seeking a Therapy Assistant (TA) passionate about working with individuals experiencing addiction and mental health issues to join the dynamic Addiction and Mental Health Adult Outreach Team based in the Regional Resource Center in Medicine Hat. The Therapy Assistant is an essential member of a transformed, integrated, recovery-oriented multi-disciplinary treatment team. This therapy assistant position will primarily support the Recreation Therapists and our recreation therapy programming but will also have the opportunity to work with the Occupational Therapists. Responsibilities include implementation of treatment plans and programs (1:1 and groups) as directed by therapists. The TA is also responsible for observing, tracking, and reporting changes in patients' physical, functional, mental and behavioral conditions to therapists or other appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. In this role, you will provide direct client care and have the opportunity to contribute ideas and feedback to the Recreation and Occupational Therapists in shaping future programs and interventions. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Applicants who are currently or who have experience working as Recreation therapy TA, or have specific training related to recreation therapy. Intermediate computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite and Connect Care. Experience with EMR - Connect Care. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Able to work effectively within a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team. Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making skills in a complex environment. Effective self-management and time management skills paired with initiative. Demonstrated ability to identify and manage conflict situations. Demonstrated effective team player. Open to change and learning new skills/areas of care. Ability to evaluate, provide feedback and outcomes. Highly flexible and able to adapt when faced with competing demands. Ability to engage and support individuals with mental, physical and cognitive challenges. Suicide intervention training required. NVCI training required.
Demonstrated recent experience working in the Community with Addiction and Mental Health populations preferred. Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in a community setting supporting RT with at least one year of experience working with adults with addiction and/or mental health issues preferred.
