Description
The city of Grande Prairie is located in northwest Alberta and has something for everyone! We are a growing city with about 70,000 residents. In addition to a state-of-the-art recreation facility and new regional hospital, there are many outdoor and indoor activities available at our numerous parks and golf courses. Grande Prairie also has a vibrant arts and culture community, live theatre and a multitude of dining and shopping opportunities. The Recreation Therapy Assistant in this role ensures the level of recreation therapy practice is evidence based and meets recreation therapy standards of practice. This position is a community based position requiring the scheduling of clients and visiting the clients in their homes and will mainly involve service provision to Home Care clients. While working with three Recreation Therapists, this role promotes a comprehensive Home Care and community service for clients developing and implementing evidence based, client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards of practice. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Therapeutic Recreation Assistant or equivalent Diploma/Certification from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent experience required. Valid BCLS-HCP certificate required. Must be able to electronically chart. Proven organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Able to accept verbal and written instructions. Able to work with minimal supervision. Professional and courteous manner. Physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time over uneven ground, participating in wheelchair biking.
Preferably 1 year experience in a community Therapeutic Recreation program under the direction of a Recreation Therapist.
