This is an exciting opportunity for a Therapy Assistant interested in working with adults, living in the community, who have complex rehabilitation needs. The Community Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Service (CRIS) clinic located at the Mother Rosalie Health Services Building (Misericordia Community Hospital) and also located at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and Strathcona County Community Hospital is seeking a Therapy Assistant to provide rehabilitation services to community dwelling adults with complex and neurological conditions. This position provides the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team including Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Recreation Therapy, Psychology and Social Work. The successful candidate will be required to provide high quality patient centered care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and under the supervision of various therapists. The successful candidate will also be required to maintain adequate clinical records, support learning opportunities for student therapy assistants, and work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide safe, effective and appropriate patient care. This position supports CRIS services offered at all three locations (Mother Rosalie, Kaye Edmonton Clinic, Strathcona Community Hospital) with most work completed at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Current BCLS-HCP certification is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated problem solving, planning and organizational skills are required. Must be able to prioritize workload and work as part of a team. Must demonstrate a strong patient/family centered approach to care. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email and internet access is required.

A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with neurological patients and patients with complex rehabilitation needs is preferred. Training and experience providing speech therapy is preferred. Experience providing group treatment is considered an asset. Training and experience in implementing Health Change Methodology™ principles is an asset. Experience working with Connect Care scheduling and/or EMR is considered an asset.
