Therapy Assistant

At RGH you will be supported to develop your practice in an interdisciplinary and innovative environment. The caseload may include all inpatient acute care areas including medical, surgical, sub-acute and recreation therapy. As a member of the Allied Health team, the Therapy Assistant will be adaptable and open to the continuous changes that occur in an acute care setting. As the environment can be challenging and fast-paced, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work cohesively in an inter-disciplinary setting. Additionally you will be effective in time management and demonstrate professional initiative. You will also be a critical thinker with the ability to work autonomously, demonstrate compassion and empathy and have a focus on Patient and Family Centered care. This position may require repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and equipment. Weekend and evening coverage and student supervision is expected for all positions on the Therapy Assistant team at Rockyview General Hospital.

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Current BLS Provider - Heart and Stroke certificate. Experience as a Therapy Assistant in an urban adult acute care setting within the last 2 years.

1+ yrs’ exp in an urban adult acute care setting within last 5 years. Exp with the following TA acute care skill sets: MBS/FEES, Arthroplasty D/C Program, therapeutic sewing Exp in Rec Therapy Exp leading patient groups. Exp in: Orthopedics, Specialized Geriatric Units, Critical Care, General Medicine and General Surgery Exp with managing rehabilitation equipment. Exp working with geriatric populations in an acute care setting. Exp at Rockyview General Hospital.
