Description
Myron Thompson Health Centre is in a rural community in west central Alberta and is an intimate team environment providing care with 14 acute care beds, 5 long term care beds, 4 restorative care beds and a five stretcher emergency department. Staff work in a multidisciplinary team to provide nursing care in a blended acute/ER and continuing care environment. This environment is suitable for candidates who enjoy the opportunity to provide a broad spectrum of nursing care in a rural setting. The Sundre district and West Country is known for excellent outdoor recreational opportunities and has a rich heritage of western culture. Farming/ranching, oil and gas, forestry and tourism are the main industrial/commercial activities in this district.
The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for the nursing student employed as a UNE to consolidate the knowledge and skill acquired in their approved nursing education program towards competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The UNE is an unregulated member of the collaborative health care team who provides patient centred care with the supervision of the RN or RPN. The nursing activities performed, and level of supervision required are determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by regulatory colleges, Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy, educational preparation, practice setting, complexity of the patient, level of risk involved, and competency of the UNE.
Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.
Current enrollment in an approved nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse (3rd year UNE’s). Completed a minimum of 450 hours of clinical practice in an approved nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse Current Health Care Provider level (C) CPR Acquired competencies in clinical nursing practice to provide safe, quality nursing care, in a supervised assignment Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction and show initiative Critical thinking skills including clinical judgment, problem solving, and evaluation skills reflective of level of education Professional, mature manner Effective interpersonal and communication skills Respect and tolerance for different Patients and cultural lifestyles Ability to engage in ands support evidence based practice and research.
