If you are an Undergraduate Nurse (UNE) who likes small town living, this position in Stettler might be for you. Stettler is located in the Heart of Alberta, just 179 km southeast of Edmonton and 101 km east of Red Deer. It serves as a regional hub with a main trading area involving over 11,000 people. The town has a wide assortment of community facilities including an elementary/junior high school, a composite high school, a library, twin arenas, an aquatic centre, a performing arts theatre, and much more. The area also has a few golf courses and is close to Buffalo Lake. Stettler Hospital boasts a twenty-six bed Medical / Surgical Inpatient Unit that includes one Palliative and two LDRP suites as well as two monitored close observation beds. Additionally, there is an eight bed Emergency Room and a Surgical / Endoscopy Program.

The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for the nursing student employed as a UNE to consolidate the knowledge and skill acquired in their approved nursing education program towards competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The UNE is an unregulated member of the collaborative health care team who provides patient centred care with the supervision of the RN or RPN. The nursing activities performed, and level of supervision required are determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by regulatory colleges, Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy, educational preparation, practice setting, complexity of the patient, level of risk involved, and competency of the UNE.

Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.

Successful candidate must be able to commit to a 31 hours per week, 8-week temporary schedule, as required by Canada Summer Jobs.

Completed / current Connect Care training in Rural Nurse, Therapy Plan and Day Surgery. Current required organizational learning.
