As an Undergraduate Nurse Employee (UNE) in the Outpatient Oncology Clinics, you will work closely with Registered Nurses to support patient assessments, provide health education, and enhance the patient experience in a specialized cancer care setting. Under direct RN supervision and within your scope, you will contribute to the delivery of safe, informed, and compassionate care, while gaining valuable clinical experience in oncology nursing. In this role, you will assist with gathering patient information-including vital signs, symptom updates, and treatment side effect reports-to support nursing assessments and care planning. You will help reinforce patient and family education by providing clear, accurate information about clinic visits, symptom tracking, and self-care strategies, as directed by the RN. You will observe oncology consultations and treatments, helping to prepare materials and coordinate patient flow in the clinic. Working within a team environment, you will develop your communication and critical thinking skills, while respecting patient confidentiality and demonstrating professionalism. This position is designed to expand your understanding of outpatient cancer care, with a focus on assessment and education as key components of nursing practice.

An Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for a UNE to develop further competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The nursing activities performed and level of supervision required is determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by professional associations, AHS and competency of the UNE. You will be guided by your education, experience and demonstrated skill level to play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.
