Description
Reporting to the Director of Rural Acute Care in Northeast Central Zone, the Acute Care Manager provides leadership and operational direction to the Acute Care Inpatient Unit, Obstetrics and Emergency Department at the Wainwright Health Centre. Wainwright Health Centre’s full suite of healthcare services provides a range of care for a wide variety of medical concerns and includes a 24/7 Emergency department. In this role you will be a clinical leader, mentor and advocate for safe patient care. The Wainwright Health Centre contains a 25-bed acute care medical/surgical unit, 2-bed obstetrical suite, a 24/7 Emergency Department, an OR, day surgery unit and cardiac wellness services. Wainwright is a vibrant and friendly rural community of around 7,000 located in east-central Alberta on highways 14 and 41. It is known as a major service center for the agriculture, oil and gas industries and is home to Canadian Forces Base Wainwright. A community of delightful contrasts, it is a township boasting a variety of attractive neighborhoods from charming older districts lined with trees to steadily expanding new residential subdivisions. You will be conveniently close to inviting parks, modern playgrounds and numerous recreational amenities including the Peace Memorial Multiplex with a walking track and climbing wall, pool, weight training facilities, dance studio, meeting rooms and banquet halls. As the Unit Manager, you will be responsible for providing leadership to an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals dedicated to providing leading care to Albertans. In this leadership position, you will be making key decisions and establishing and contributing to the achievements and goals of the Acute Care, Emergency, Obstetrics and programs as well as responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders, facilitating change management, promoting team development, teamwork and coordinating staffing and clinical work as identified by the Area Manager/Director. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining an effective framework for the operations of patient and resident care services to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and safe patient and resident care. These activities may include providing day-to-day direction to the staff working on the unit, daily assignment of patients and residents, rounds, staff scheduling, interdisciplinary rounds, identifying and attempting to resolve patient, resident and staff concerns, and participating in the discharge planning process. In addition, you will be implementing and monitoring your portfolio’s budget while undertaking risk management, quality assurance and utilization activities. Your leadership, direction and organization of the units will be in support of the vision, mission and business plan.
Active registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Minimum of five years of nursing experience in rural Acute Care and OR programs. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Minimum of two years of management experience within a unionized environment.
