Are you under 18 and looking for a unique opportunity to advance the health of Albertans? Alberta Health Services is currently looking for Youth Test Shoppers to join their Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Enforcement team in Calgary. Working in a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, under the Provincial Population & Public Health portfolio, Youth Test Shoppers will help Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Investigators enforce the Alberta Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Reduction Act, focusing on the prohibition of tobacco and vaping product sales to minors at tobacco and vaping product retailers in Alberta. Your duties will include attempting to purchase tobacco and vaping products at retail locations in Alberta, observing attempted purchases by other youth shoppers, and accurately reporting and documenting your observations in an electronic information system. This position requires that you are able to follow detailed instruction while working closely with Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Investigators as well as with other youth shoppers. Understandably this position will require dynamic verbal communication skills as you communicate confidently with Alberta retailers and team members. You will also bring strong written communication skills to complete the required documentation with attention to detail along with the ability to record this information into an electronic information system. You will be required to travel in a fleet vehicle to the different destinations, sometimes to other towns outside of the city, but will have to be able to get to the decided upon AHS meeting site.

You will be responsible for carrying out your duties in accordance with an Alberta Tobacco and Vaping Test Shopper Training Manual. This will include, carefully following the instructions provided to you by a Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Investigator, and also meticulously documenting your observations after a test shop is complete. This is a casual position, and hours will not be guaranteed. Some shifts will range in times of 3 to 12 hours. It is also important to note that you will be called in on an as needed basis.

Minimum completion of Grade 9 high school and active/current enrollment in secondary schooling. Must be at least 15 years of age and under 18 and must be under 18 years of age for the duration of the employment term.
