Posted in accordance with article 12.01 (a) of the CUPE Collective Agreement as the anticipated duration of this opportunity is expected to exceed 6 months

Preference will be granted in accordance with the Collective Agreement for CUPE local 1479 to permanent internal candidates.

Long Term Occasional Position

Effective immediately up to June 27, 2025.

6 hours and 45 minutes per day,

5 days per week

The Intensive Support Assistant will work as a team member in Student Services to support staff and students in assigned schools. They provide transitional support to students with special education needs, and support staff in understanding Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and assess and collect data to support planning for student success. They train various staff groups on a variety of topics such as Behaviour Management Systems (BMS), practical functional assessment and skill-based teaching (PFA-SBT), and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) under the clinical supervision of a Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA).

Qualifications:

College diploma in Behaviour Science Technology, Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker or a comparable field.

Minimum two years’ experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other complex needs.

Ontario Class G driver’s license

Demonstrates ability to work with a team designing and implementing intervention programs.

Demonstrates ability to present information to small/large groups.

Demonstrates knowledge of relevant Special Education resource tools.

Has a strong understanding of school responsibility for learner progress.

Proven ability to deal with confidential information in a discreet manner.

Ability to take initiative and work independently

Experience in alternative communication an asset.

Strong technology skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Physical ability to be able to perform the work including possible lifting of children up to 25 kg. (or 55 lb.).

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must provide a Criminal Background Check (CBC) with vulnerable sector screening current within six months of date of hire.
